Unlike other brands, our Universal bit features a small offset ring at the top for cheek straps. Offsetting this ring ensures that any excessive cheek pressure is avoided and the large ring is kept from rubbing the sides of the face.

The HP Relief Universal is ideal for those requiring a range of control options. Depending on where the rein is attached to the rings gives varying degrees of leverage action. The barrel gives independent side action, while the curve gives the horse maximum comfort.

FEATURES:

  • Offset cheekstrap ring to reduce pressure & rubbing on facel
  • Elimination of the harsh nutcracker action;
  • Extra curve wraps around the mouth for improved fit and comfort to the horse;
  • Varying degrees of leverage action depending on rings selected;
  • Smaller diameter metal to ensure maximum comfort to the horses tongue and palette, and enable the horse to seal its mouth and swallow;
  • Even pressure & stability on the centre of the tongue;
  • Copper inserts on inside arm curves;
  • Horses appreciate the double joint as they can manipulate the location of the bit sitting (especially so with the barrel) to avoid the main nerves in the bars.

Barrel sizes: 4–4.75" = 20mm; 5–5.50" = 28mm; 6–7" = 30mm.

Sizes 4", 4.25", & 4.5" have a small or standard ring size option. Standard rings are 75mm (outside of the ring); Small rings are 60mm. If you have a small pony mouth with a small head use the small ring option; if your have a larger mount that has a small mouth use the standard option.

IMPORTANT FITTING INFORMATION:
The HP Barrel bits fit a little larger than the regular single or double jointed bits due to the mouth shaping. Measure the horses mouth yourself (using rope or twine in the mouth where the bit goes, thumbs FLUSH on each side, measure between your thumbs), PLEASE don't go on the size of your existing bit. Then go down 1/4" or down to the nearest size. These bits are designed to fit slightly lower in the mouth and have approx 1cm of arm outside the mouth—if you can see the elbow of the arm, it is too large.
